I started this blog because I am a Business Development and Marketing Consultant who also happens to identify as lesbian. Recently the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama publicly announced that he is not opposed to gay marriage. When I heard this I got goose bumps because I witnessed world history twice in my life, (the first time was when he was elected into office).
The leader of the free world has shown that he is an innovative thinker. Innovators like Barack Obama who dare to express new ideas regardless of the risk associated with it are the bravest kind of people you’ll find. He is certainly one of the bravest Presidents in Americas history and should be celebrated as an American hero.
Today 18 State’s either allow gay marriage, civil unions, or domestic partnership’s (http://statesthatallowgaymarriage.com/). I would like to help bridge the gap between the GLBT community and Corporate America. As America moves into 21st Century, I hope to see more progress in this area.
Many American businesses and organizations are beginning to recognize the opportunities and potential employees, clients, and customers, that may be found in the GLBT community. Many organizations offer benefits and insurance to their GLBT employees’ partners, and have diversity and inclusion policies. In fact many organizations have a zero tolerance when it comes to any type of discrimination.
Although we have a rough road ahead, we have come a long way.
As America embarks on the 21st Century it is important for Business leaders to understand and respect the economic strength that the GLBT community holds. Far more public and private organizations are employing professionals from the GLBT community than ever before. We also purchase products in the consumer and business markets. More and more Gay professionals are starting families, buying homes, owning businesses. Everyday we are reaching new levels of professional and social status.
The purpose of this blog is to demystify the GLBT Community, when it comes to business.
I also plan to shine some light on some of the Businesses and organizations that are owned and operated by members of the GLBT community along with organizations that support or oppose Marriage Equality. Along with a spotlight on GLBT professionals and entrepreneurs. I believe this blog will not only be helpful to members of the business community but to consumers, as well. Consumers may find it interesting to learn how they can contribute the growth of a GLBT owned or GLBT Ally Business. Please stay follow and comment on my blog.
